The Marquee
Holliday Development is a real estate development company specializing in the rehabilitation of former industrial buildings into mixed use, live-work communities. Founded in 1988 and now headquartered in Emeryville, this innovative company is responsible for creating nearly 1,000 units of market-rate and affordable mixed-use housing in the Bay Area. Its portfolio includes the renovation and rehabilitation of historic landmark buildings, such as The ClockTower and the Emeryville Warehouse. Holliday Development also co-created the first ever conversion of a military base into a Marin County village community.
One of the first to bring East Coast-style lofts to San Francisco, President Rick Holliday also co-founded two of the Bay Area’s non-profit development corporations: BRIDGE Housing and Eden Housing. The company is currently expanding its portfolio by developing live-work lofts in Sacramento and Walnut Creek, while developing the master plan for rehabilitating the 25-acre Central Station property in West Oakland, former terminus of the transcontinental railroad.
Holliday Development partnered with two development companies to renovate and rehabilitate The Marquee at 1000 Van Ness and was awarded the San Francisco Business Times’ Rehab of the Year in 1999. This historic urban Landmark Building was converted into a 450,000 square foot mixed-use development, including 51 luxury loft condominiums, a multiplex cinema, 35,000 square foot fitness center, restaurant and business space, and 401 underground public parking spaces.
